The all-new Toyota Sequoia is built in America to satisfy North American conditions: big roads, big loads, and wide open spaces. There is ample power in reserve for towing and hauling, and a roomy, comfy interior.
There are so many small, thoughtful touches, we get the sense that the Sequoia is one of those SUVs an owner would grow to appreciate more and more as time goes on.
The Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV available in three trim levels: SR5, Limited or Platinum. Even base SR5 models are well equipped, with alloy
wheels, a 40/20/40 second-row bench seat, triple-zone automatic climate control, a CD stereo with an auxiliary audio jack, and full power accessories. The Limited adds leather upholstery, power front seats, an upgraded JBL sound system and Bluetooth.
The Sequoia Platinum features: 20-inch wheels while adding load-leveling rear air springs, adaptive shock absorbers, a power liftgate, second-row captain’s chairs (dropping capacity to seven) and a navigation system with an integrated back-up camera, among numerous other niceties.
The base engine in the SR5 model is a 4.7-liter V8 that has essentially been carried over from the previous-generation Sequoia. Rated at 276 horsepower and 314 pound-feet of torque, this smooth and adequately powerful engine puts its power to the pavement via a five-speed automatic transmission.
Optional on the SR5 and standard on all other Sequoias is a 5.7-liter V8 mated to a six-speed automatic; this engine pumps out 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. All Sequoia trims are available in either
two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
Advanced safety features include side-curtain airbags, active head restraints and airbag occupancy sensors. The trend in new technology is to go beyond just reacting to accidents, but trying to avoid them in the first place.
Its interior is a triumph of ergonomics, storage bins and family-friendly conveniences. You’ll find a minimum of 16 cupholders in every Sequoia. Luggage capacity behind the third row measures 19 cubic feet.
With that seat folded, there are nearly 67 cubic feet. With both rear rows folded down, the Sequoia tops out at 121 cubic feet.
